Today is World Gratitude Day. So this one is about thank you, and about how much further it goes than we expect.
One thing worth knowing
A few years ago, researchers asked people to write a short thank-you note to someone who had mattered to them, and before sending it, to guess how the reader would feel. The writers expected a little awkwardness.
The readers were moved instead. The writers had underestimated how much a few honest lines would mean, and overestimated how strange it would be to receive them.
The small thing is rarely the whole thing. A few honest lines are usually the spark: they turn into a phone call, then a dinner, then a friendship that feels close again.
Juggle is built around the next small thing, and the one after that.
One thing worth doing
Think of someone who taught you something, opened a door for you, or believed in you before there was much reason to. Not the obvious one. The one who came to mind first.
Tell them. Today is all the reason it needs. You can send this exactly as it is:
People are expressing gratitude today, and when I thought of someone who made a difference to me, you came to mind. I just want you to know you matter.
